A drayage TMS that does the terminal work for you
DrayTech runs container drayage from one screen: delivery orders, tracing, appointments, dispatch, the driver app, billing and driver pay. Your team stops jumping between terminal sites and portals.
What a drayage TMS should do
Most transportation software was built for freight that moves from dock to dock. Drayage is different. A container sits at a terminal with a last free day. It may have a customs hold or a line hold. It needs a gate pass or an appointment before a truck can pull it. It rides on a chassis that someone pays for by the day. And when the delivery is done, the empty still has to go back.
A drayage TMS has to handle all of that. Not as notes in a spreadsheet, but as real data on each shipment. That is what DrayTech is built for.
One screen, from delivery order to paid invoice
Here is how a container moves through DrayTech:
- The delivery order arrives by email. DrayTech reads the PDF, ZIP or scan and creates the shipment with every container, customer and reference. Revised DOs and duplicates are caught. Anything it is not sure about is flagged for a person, not guessed.
- The container is traced. Vessel status, discharge, availability, holds and last free day come from the terminals and land on the shipment. See container tracking.
- Holds and fees are flagged. Before a driver is sent, dispatch sees which boxes are on hold and which owe terminal fees. See holds and terminal fees.
- The appointment is booked. Gate passes and terminal appointments are booked from the shipment, and the pin goes to the driver's phone. See terminal appointments.
- The driver runs the trip. The driver app shows the trip, the pin, the window and directions. GPS geofences stamp arrive and depart times.
- The invoice drafts itself. Drayage, fuel surcharge, chassis days and other accessorials are added, and the paperwork is merged into one PDF. Driver pay is posted per leg. See drayage billing.
Built for port work
Drayage is rarely one pickup and one delivery. DrayTech handles the moves your dispatchers deal with every day:
- Multi-leg shipments with the right driver on each leg
- Pre-pulls to your yard, with yard storage tracked by day
- Drop and hook, live unloads and dual moves
- Street turns and empty returns to the terminal that is taking the box
- Chassis days and chassis splits, billed by your rules
- Overweight boxes that need a tri-axle chassis
Ports we run today
DrayTech runs live work in two port regions and supports a third:
- Port Houston: Bayport and Barbours Cut, with live tracing and pre-gate pins booked for you.
- Port of Oakland: OICT, TraPac and Everport.
- Los Angeles and Long Beach: dispatch, billing and the driver app.
Built inside a working fleet
DrayTech was not designed in a conference room. It was built and runs every day inside an operating drayage carrier in Houston and Oakland, and more than 4,700 container legs have run on it. Every rule came from a real container: a missed last free day, a pin that expired, an empty sent to the wrong terminal. You can read how that carrier moved to DrayTech.
Your rules, built in hours
Every trucking company is different. A customer report, a billing rule, a warehouse screen or a new integration can be built into your DrayTech, usually the same day. You tell us what you need in plain English.
People stay in charge
Automation does the routine work. Your team keeps control. Every change, by a person or by the system, is logged with who, what and when. Payments need approval from authorized users. Dispatchers, accounting, drivers and customers each see only what they should.
Moving from another system?
You do not have to switch overnight. Most carriers run both systems side by side for a short time, then cut over by delivery date so nothing is billed twice. Read switching from a legacy drayage TMS for the steps.
Frequently asked questions
What is a drayage TMS?
A drayage TMS is transportation management software built for moving containers between ports, yards and customers. It tracks things general trucking software does not: last free day, holds, terminal appointments, chassis and empty returns.
Which ports does DrayTech support?
All of them. DrayTech is built for drayage carriers anywhere in the United States: dispatch, the driver app, container tracking and billing work at any port or rail ramp. Automatic terminal connections run today at Port Houston (Bayport and Barbours Cut) and the Port of Oakland (OICT, TraPac and Everport), and new terminals are connected as carriers ask for them.
Does DrayTech include accounting?
Yes. It has built-in receivables, payables and a general ledger, plus per-leg driver pay and ACH with approval controls. You can also export to your existing accounting package.
Can DrayTech be customized for my company?
Yes. Reports, billing rules, screens and integrations can be built around how you work, usually within hours.
Do I have to stop using my current TMS right away?
No. You can run both side by side, then cut over by delivery date. Loads delivered before the cut-over date bill in the old system; loads delivered on or after it bill in DrayTech.
